Un open call proposta da Licia Martelli, architetto e maker, ha scatenato la fantasia dei makers milanesi. Tantissimi i progetti arrivati sul tema del ‘souvenir di Milano’, città multisegnica e dall’anima complessa, che difficilmente riesce ad essere racchiusa in un oggetto che ne esprima la vasta e varia territorialità. Ma nell’anno di Expo, al tema del territorio di Milano è sembrato naturale accostare e sovrapporre quello altrettanto ricco del ‘cibo’.

Multiformi e multi significanti sono state le proposte dei makers; oggetti della grandezza massima di un decimetro cubo, come richiesto dal bando, che rileggono la Milano di oggi nelle sue molte sfaccettature: dalle poetiche cartoline diorama, ai bijoux a forma di ‘duomo’ che si trasformano inamuleto; o ancora la michetta, pane simbolo di Milano, in terracotta o smaltata in oro, oppure i pesci nelle ritrovate vie d’acqua milanesi.

‘Oggetti ricordo’ di design, che esprimono la tipicità di Milano, non per mezzo di un materiale o una specifica funzione, ma attraverso la creatività, l’accento multiculturale e la qualità, tutte caratteristiche proprie anche della città meneghina.

I Souvenir dei makers milanesi sono dei segnalibro, dei “Trofei di viaggio” – come scrive nel suo volume Duccio Canestrini – da esibire a casa, dei ricordi cristallizzati in un oggetto.

Tutti i ‘souvenir’ in mostra alla Fabbrica del Vapore saranno anche disponibili e in vendita presso il bookshop allestito durante le oltre tre settimane della durata di Sharing Design, dl 14 aprile all’8 maggio.

An open call by Licia Martelli, architect and maker, triggered off the imagination of Milanese makers. A huge number of projects arrived on the theme of a ‘souvenir from Milano’, a city of multiple signs and with a complex soul, which is hard to enclosed in an object that expresses how vast and varied it is. In the year of the Expo, it seemed natural to place alongside the theme of the Milan area and overlap it with the equally rich theme of ‘food’..

The makers’ proposals were multi-faceted and with multiple meanings; objects with a maximum size of ten square centimetres, as required by the regulations, which reinterpret the Milan of today in its many facets: from the poetic diorama postcards, to the jewellery in the shape of the ‘Duomo’ which are transformed into a lucky charm or the ‘michetta’, the roll that is the symbol of Milan, in terracotta or enamelled in gold, or the fish in the refound Milanese waterways.

‘Souvenir objects’ of design, which express what is typical about Milan, not through a material or a specific function, but through creativity, the multicultural accent and quality, all characteristics  of the city.

The Souvenirs of the Milanese makers are bookmarks,  “Travel trophies” – as Duccio Canestrini writes in his book – to display at home, of memories crystallized in an object.

All the ‘souvenirs’ on display at the Fabbrica del Vapore will also be available and on sale at the bookshop open during Sharing Design, lasting for more than three weeks, from 14^th April to 8^th May.
